ROTTERDAM / BRUSSELS, 6 NOVEMBER 2019: The Belgian feature ‘Tench’ (‘Muidhond’) will have its international premiere in the ‘Limelight’ programme of the ‘Voices’ section at the International Film Festival of Rotterdam (22 Jan – 2 Feb 2020). Patrice Toye’s fourth feature stars Tijmen Govaerts (‘Girl’, ‘We’), Ina Geerts (‘The treatment’), Line Pillet (‘Mandy’, Little Black Spiders’) and Julia Brown, amongst others.
The film is an adaptation of the award-winning Dutch novel ‘Muidhond’ by writer Inge Schilperoord. Director Patrice Toye co-wrote the script with Peter Seynaeve, Richard Van Oosterhout acted as Director of Photography and John Parish composed the film music. The film received its world premiere at Film Fest Gent, where it also won the North Sea Port Audience Award.
‘Tench’ follows Jonathan, a kind-hearted young man, who is released from prison due to lack of evidence. He returns to his mother who lives in a small house by the dunes. Jonathan wants to forget the past and is determined to become a different and better person. But even though he strictly adheres to the rules, his good intentions are soon put to the test when a young woman moves in next to him with her little daughter.
‘Tench’ is a production by Antonino Lombardo for Prime Time, in coproduction with Versus Productions and KeyFilm. The film was supported by the Flanders Audiovisual Fund (VAF) by Flemish Minister for Culture Jan Jambon, Centre du Cinéma et l’Audiovisuel de la Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles and was made possible by Belgian Tax Shelter for Film Financing (Belga Films Fund), The Netherlands Film Fund, the Netherlands Film Production Incentive and Telenet. Distributor Imagine will release ‘Tench’ in Belgian theatres on 29 January 2020 and on 30 January 2020 in the Netherlands.
