On the 14th of December, a luminous celebration unfolded at the prestigious Hôtel de Poulpry, Maison des Polytechniciens, as the President and Founder, Manuel Collas de La Roche of the Better World Fund and the Better World Business Club orchestrated a Gala dinner brimming with enthusiasm and purpose.
The radiant atmosphere of the event was dedicated to a noble cause —the increase of disabled people’s employment and their inclusion in the workplace. The gathering went beyond just socializing; it served as a strong commitment to bringing about positive change in the lives of those facing challenges. At the core of this inspiring event was a significant focus on (La Chaire de Formation et de Recherche Handicap, Emploi et Santé au Travail de l’Université Paris-Est Créteil) highlighting the crucial role of education, research, and support in the field of disability. Manuel Collas de la Roche, the President and founder of The Better World Fund, took center stage, expressing his unwavering dedication to individuals with disabilities. This aligns with the fundamental belief that every person, regardless of ability, deserves compassionate care and equal career opportunity.
The spotlight shone brightly on the often-overlooked issue of disabilities in the environment. It’s a challenge that many fail to fully comprehend in terms of its severity and the myriad challenges faced by those affected. Whether resulting from accidents or serious illnesses, disabilities affect individuals across all age groups, from children to adults. Yet, these challenges persist in our midst, often going unnoticed amidst the hustle and bustle of daily life.
Upon our arrival, we were graciously welcomed with an exquisite cocktail, offering us the delightful opportunity to engage with esteemed guests. Notably, we had the honor of interacting with Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice of Bourbon of the Two Sicilies, who graciously serves as the godmother of the gala. Additionally, we took the opportunity to acquaint ourselves with the esteemed members of the business club in attendance.
As we gathered around our table, we immersed ourselves in the evening’s agenda, commencing with the captivating short film titled “Dear Mother.” This animated masterpiece unfolded a moving narrative that triumphed over the challenges of disability, skillfully highlighting the profound influences of love, faith, and motherhood.

Directed by the Emirati filmmaker Fadel Saeed Almuhairi, written by Pierre Filmon, and brought to life by producer Manuel Collas de la Rouche, this outstanding film stands as a dedicated initiative to raise awareness about disabilities. It beautifully showcases the positive impact of resilience and the human spirit in overcoming obstacles, leaving a lasting impression on all who experience it.
Next in line, we had the privilege of hearing from the esteemed Karine Gros, recognized as the godmother of the film. An esteemed scholar and authority in Disability, Employment, and Occupational Health at Work, she not only holds the Chair in this domain but also serves as the Inclusion Mission Officer at UPEC. Karine Gros is a Senior Lecturer with Authorization to Supervise Research at the University of Paris-Créteil (UPEC) and has been honored as a Knight in the National Order of the Legion of Honour in France. Her speech proved to be truly enlightening, providing inspiration derived from her wealth of knowledge.
Her unwavering dedication is directed towards cultivating a more inclusive and supportive environment for individuals facing challenges. Karine Gros passionately champions equal opportunities and fair treatment, actively endorsing disability-specific programs, initiatives, and the seamless integration of individuals with disabilities into training and employment. Her committed efforts underscore the importance of fostering an environment that embraces diversity and supports the advancement of all individuals, irrespective of their disabilities.
A gala wouldn’t be complete without the enchanting allure of music and song, and our joy was doubled as we enjoyed the performances of two exceptional artists gracing the stage. Mina Agossi, a celebrated jazz singer and versatile artist, is renowned for her generous spirit. Through skillful artistry, she imparts a profound sense of rhythm with her mesmerizing, sultry, and silky vocalizations, all while exuding a compelling stage presence. Similarly, Jawee Omicill, deeply rooted in the jazz tradition, expertly blends diverse elements, ensuring that the genre’s vibrant energy remains ever-present.
The Gala dinner surpassed the confines of a delectable menu and a glamorous affair; it radiated as a powerful beacon of hope and a compelling call to action. It served as a poignant reminder of the tremendous influence each one of us possesses to effect positive change, raise awareness, and contribute to the creation of a world where every individual, regardless of ability, can truly thrive.
AWARDS FOR MAKING THE WORLD BETTER PLACE
Special awards and trophies were given to honor amazing individuals committed to making the world a better place. The Better World Fund bestowed recognition and appreciation for the unwavering efforts of Olivier Goy, Morgane Racine, and Christophe Roth.
Olivier Goy:
Meet Olivier Goy, the co-founder and board president of the innovative fintech company October. His unwavering dedication is directed towards fostering the inclusion of people with disabilities in the workplace. Despite facing the challenge of being diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), he passionately advocates for inclusion and diversity. A shining example is his active participation in events like Inclusiv’Day, showcasing his commitment to creating positive and inclusive environments.
Morgane Racine:
Introducing Morgane Racine, the vibrant Strategy and Development Director at Handiprint, a printing company that goes beyond business to make a positive impact. The company employs a diverse workforce of 201 individuals, including 150 with disabilities. These remarkable individuals receive training in various trades, such as graphic design, offset and digital printing, finishing, signage, routing, and the creation of laminated calendars. Morgane’s leadership contributes to a workplace that values diversity and empowers individuals to showcase their talents.
Christophe Roth (Surprise Award)
Meet the inspiring Christophe Roth, recipient of the Surprise Award and National Secretary for Accessibility and Equal Opportunities at CFE-CGC. In his influential position, he actively champions the inclusion of disabled individuals in the workplace. As the president of Agefiph, he envisions a future where nearly full employment for people with disabilities is not just a goal but a reality by the year 2027. Christophe’s positive impact resonates in his tireless efforts to create opportunities and eliminate barriers for all.
The Agefiph
The Agefiph, known as the ‘Association de Gestion du Fonds pour l’Insertion Professionnelle des Personnes Handicapées’ in French, is an organization committed to facilitating the seamless integration of individuals with disabilities into the workforce. Established in 1987, Agefiph operates within the framework of French legislation, specifically a law stipulating that companies with a staff of 20 or more employees must allocate a minimum of 6% of their workforce to individuals with disabilities. Failure to adhere to this quota mandates that companies make financial contributions to support Agefiph’s initiatives.
As the evening approached its conclusion, anticipation filled the air for the Tombola, revealing exciting prizes for the fortunate winners:
