So far Manuel representing England has achieved 4th place overall in the Mr World Sports Challenge which included a marathon and a swimming tournament, & top 20 in the Head to Head round where he had the opportunity to speak about his passion for the armed forces.
Both Usman & James have excelled in the Mr World Top Model round reaching the shortlist and Usman reached the talent round with his Boxing performance!
All 3 are hoping to make the final top 20 shortlist on Saturday 23rd November and ultimately win the title.
Here’s an update as they reflect on the contest so far ;
“The Hospitality here is fantastic. The Vietnamese people are just so nice! Even the people we meet round the streets when we are out and about. They ask us for photo’s & they are so respectful and kind. I’ve been dining with the contestants from the European group or sometimes the Latin boys from South America they are just hilarious and great fun to be with! My favourite part in Mr World by far is the head to head round. Dressed in my dinner suit from Scotneys of London road on Armistice Day speaking about the armed forces on a world stage was a proud moment for me.
I was able to talk about the army , something I care about deeply for as Ive been in the army since I was 16 years old. Also winning the European race against 8 countries in the swimming challenge and now placing 4th overall in the sports round feels great.
I’m rooming with Ireland and enjoying the last few days in the sun with these lads . Win or lose Im definitely not looking forward to saying goodbye , I’ve made friends for life.”
James Moody (18) is representing Northern Ireland and is rooming with Mr Netherlands, and says representing his country has been an absolute pleasure.
“Sharing a space with someone from a different culture has given me the chance to learn and bond in ways I wouldn’t have imagined. We’ve exchanged stories about our countries and shared some great laughs – it’s been a true cultural exchange. The Vietnamese people have been the most accommodating and hospitable people I’ve come across, whether at home or abroad. They go above and beyond to make everyone feel welcome, from the warmth of their greetings to their meticulous care in every detail at the hotel. The hospitality here is unmatched, and it’s made this journey even more special. One of the things I love most about this experience is dining with everyone. There’s no fixed group or clique; we’re all good friends here. Each meal is an opportunity to sit with someone new, share stories, and build connections. As for the food, my favourite Vietnamese dish so far has to be their seafood salad. It’s fresh, flavourful, and uniquely satisfying – a true taste of Vietnam. My favourite round in Mr World so far has been the Top Model segment. I model for ACA models back in Northern Ireland so it was exhilarating to step onto the stage in Vietnam and represent my country in a showcase of style and confidence. I’m thrilled to have made the Top Model shortlist – it’s an incredible honour.”
Usman Janjua (24) representing Pakistan is sharing a room with Bangladesh. Speaking about his experience Usman agreed that Vietnamese people are very kind and very hospitable, “We have felt very welcome they make sure we are always happy and such very kind people. Sadly the food is a struggle for me personally as I don’t eat pork & many of the main meat dishes out here I’ve seen are pork based . I’ve really enjoyed the sea food dishes & fried rice though its all very delicious . As much as Im enjoying the Mr World competition, I have to say i am really looking forward to eating some English home cooked food when I get back ! It’s a very intense contest, lots of good competition here from across the globe as you would expect but I have also made some great friends and really enjoying my time here in Vietnam! My favourite round so far was the Top model/ fashion show .. There were 2 looks we had to create, one wearing our own clothing and one from Harold Clothing the Vietnamese designer … We got the chance to model & show our catwalk skills. I reached the top 20 shortlist”
