- Annie– the 1982 (wow we feel old) classic that made us all want to leave home, grow a ginger afro and get adopted by Mr Warbucks. This film adaptation of the Broadway smash hit about the orphan Annie was Directed by John Houston and had kids round the globe singing ‘The Sun will Come Out Tomorrow’ (to their parents despair)
- Mumma Mia– Our screens have now been blessed not once but twice with a Seyfried-Streep collaboration as Seyfried’s character Sophie tries to decipher who her real father is from a group of dapper gentlemen
- ET– we were never quite sure whether his phoning home was successful but we wish him well nevertheless
- Lion– this touching tale follows a young boy’s quest to get back to his roots after becoming separated from his family in India, only to end up in Australia. The title, starring a very handsome Dev Patel took the industry by storm, picking up six Oscar nominations at the 89th Academy Awards and two BAFTA’s
- Homeward Bound– there is absolutely nothing more wholesome than these three fluffy siblings and their pilgrimage back to their humans after being left at a friends ranch for the summer
- Instant Family– Rose Byrne and Mark Whalberg bite off more than they can chew as they become first time parents to three kids who are dead set on going back to their ‘real parents’. Byrne employs her Bad Neighbours esque wit in this hilarious comedy
- Tangled– she’s stuck in a tower so far from home that not even her long golden locks can lead her back to where she came from
- The Land Before Time– Possibly the most emotional of them all is this tale of a juvenile dinosaur called Littlefoot, trying to find others of his kind after being orphaned by his mother… I’m not crying you’re crying
- The Blind Side– Not so much a searching for, but a bid to escape from his roots, a homeless black teen called Michael Oher, who has drifted in and out of the school system for years, is taken under the wing of a wealthy family who legally adopt him and encourage him to fulfil his potential on the football field. Sandra Bullock turns up the soccer mom sass
- The Parent Trap– Hallie and Annie, the two adorable redheads from opposite sides of the pond discover they’re long lost twins at summer-camp who have been separated at birth. Oh Lindsay….where did it all go wrong?
