Three Adélie penguins watch another jumping between two ice floes. They have black heads and backs with white bellies. Shot with a Nikon D810 on Brown Bluff, Antarctica, in February 2016.

Nick Dale has won a number of awards for his photography, including the weekly prize in the Sunday Times/Audley Travel Big Shot and first and second place in the recent SINWP ‘In the Wild’ competition. He was even interviewed on London Live about his achievements.

He started taking pictures when he was 15 and wanted to turn professional, but when he asked his mother she simply said, “Well, you can always take it up as a hobby later…” So that was that for 30 years! Fortunately, a random invitation to climb Mount Kenya in 2013 led him to buy a camera and start shooting again. He’s now taken pictures in 25 countries on all seven continents and gives talks and slideshows about his various trips. He teaches photography and is planning to lead a trip to Botswana and Victoria Falls next summer so that he can pass on a few tips to the next generation of photographers.”
