The jury of the 29th La Cinef Selection has officially revealed the winners during a ceremony held at the Buñuel Theatre at the Cannes Film Festival, followed by screenings of the awarded student films.
The Short Films and La Cinef Jury was chaired by Carla Simón and included Ali Asgari, Salim Kechiouche, Ji-Min Park, and Magnus von Horn.
This year’s La Cinef Selection featured 19 student films chosen from 2,747 submissions sent by 662 film schools worldwide, showcasing emerging filmmaking talent from across the globe.
First Prize
The First Prize was awarded to Laser-Cat (LASER-GATO), directed by Lucas Acher from New York University, USA.
Second Prize
The Second Prize went to Silent Voices, directed by Nadine Misong Jin from Columbia University, USA.
Joint Third Prize
The Joint Third Prize was awarded to Never Enough (ALDRIG NOK) by Julius Lagoutte Larsen from La Fémis, France.
Another Joint Third Prize winner was Growing Stones, Flying Papers, directed by Roozbeh Gezerseh and Soraya Shamsi from Filmuniversität Babelsberg Konrad Wolf, Germany.
The Cannes Film Festival awarded grants of €15,000 for the First Prize, €11,000 for the Second Prize, and €7,500 for the Third Prize winners.
The awarded films will also receive a special screening in Paris at the Cinéma du Panthéon on June 2 at 6 p.m.
