In 2017, 526,000 UK employees experienced work-related stress. During the same year, United Kingdom workers took 12.5 million sick days because they felt too stressed to go into their workplaces. Stress is a big problem which affects the way that our skin looks. When we get stressed because of work pressures or for any other reason, our adrenal glands produce more cortisol and cortisol may suppress our immune systems. When our immunity is weakened, bacteria which lives on top of our skin may flourish and trigger breakouts. If you’re feeling stressed and your skin quality is suffering as a result, trying the skin-smoothing tips that we’re about to share will make a big and positive difference.

    Skin-smoothing supplements work wonders

The best natural dietary supplements will soothe stressed skin from the inside out. Some supplements for good skin have a great track record in terms of refining the complexion and adding radiance. Vitamin A is a fine choice as this supplement is renowned for its capacity to maintain and repair skin tissue. It’s a vitamin which is ideal for battling flaky, dry and stressed-out skin.

Another sensible option is Zinc. Zinc decreases the formation of free radicals which damage skin. It also regulates skin cell production and turnover. Optimal cell production and turnover lower the risk of clogged pores and this helps to prevent acne breakouts. Another benefit of Zinc is that it protects the skin cells which produce collagen. This kind of protection is important. Without optimal collagen production, we may lose skin suppleness, elasticity and firmness.

Find the Best Stress-Busting Skin Products

Some skin products make stressed skin worse, by stripping it of natural moisture. When your skin is stressed, it’s best to go for gentle skin care which is all about reducing inflammation and redness and soothing dryness. To create a beneficial, three-step daytime skin care routine, start by washing your face with a gentle, dermatologist-tested soap or cleanser. Then, apply a calming toner, such as natural Witch Hazel, with a clean cotton pad.

Finish your routine by adding an anti-stress lotion or cream. It should be formulated with botanical extracts which tone down the ruddiness of blotchy areas. It should also include rich emollients which nourish and soften stressed skin. In the evening, apply a night cream after cleansing. Make sure that it’s a gentle formula which is designed to improve the look and feel of ultra-sensitive skin.

How to Hide Stressed Skin with Cosmetics

If you need to hide stress-related skin imperfections during the day, you’ll find that mineral powder foundations offer great coverage which is natural. Another option is liquid foundations which are formulated for the sensitive or acne-prone skin. If you don’t like wearing makeup all over your face, apply the powder or foundation where it’s needed, or use concealer to improve the look of trouble spots. If a cosmetic is anti-acne, avoid putting it under your eyes, as it will be too drying for this delicate area.

You should also focus on getting good nutrition, drinking eight 8-oz. glasses of water per day and racking up enough hours of sleep per night (8 will be ideal). These tips may not banish stress from your life, but they’ll help you to stop the signs of stress from showing up on your face. When you nourish your skin with supplements and the right skin care products, you’ll notice measurable improvements.
