If you’re looking for a rousing musical with lots of popular songs and a cast with amazing singing voices look no further than ‘Scissorhandz: A Musical Reinvented.’

Based from the 1990 (!!) film of the same name starring Johnny Depp, but this version is set to music, it sort of follows the same storyline but on a much much smaller scale, reimagined for modern audiences. It’s a story, as the program states, that is for anyone who’s ever felt different or out of place.
Yes we still get Edward and his hands which are scissors, along with a modern love story that obscurely develops in the shows short 105 minutes, but it’s story that takes a backseat to the singing.
Rousing numbers such as ‘I’m Every Woman,’ Best Day of my Life,’ and the beautifully sung ‘Gravity’ are fantastic! All the songs are sung with such passion and energy that it almost raises the tiny roof off the building. Emma Williams, Dionne Gibson and Lauren Jones really bring their a-game voices to the show, while Jordan Kai Burnett does a good job as the titular character. They all, however, seem to be a bit too talented for this small scale of a show. But nonetheless if you’re looking for a fun and rousing evening in a show that reinvigorates the classic film, this show is for you then. Fun, rousing, and highly energetic, Scissorhandz: A Musical Reinvented’ is unique in so many ways, catch it while can you. Playing now at Southwark Playhouse Elephant until March 29th.
