The gaming industry is expected to be worth over 90 billion U.S. dollars by 2020, which is approximately 10 billion more than it was worth in 2017 ($78.61bn), according to a statistical release by BestTheNews.
It is no surprise that people enjoy video games, whether they are playing themselves or they are watching others do it instead. Gaming tournaments are a great opportunity for players to show their skills and be rewarded for it and the prizes can amount to millions of dollars.
With that in mind, the British online Marketplace OnBuy.com wanted to have a look at the top-earning female gamers* of all time by gathering data from EsportsEarnings.
Atthe top of the list is the Canadian video game player Sasha Hostyn, who plays under the name of Scarlett, with a whopping $333,456.35 (£270,789.90) made from gaming tournaments. In second place comes the Halo player Mystik (Katherine Gunn) having earned $122,000.00(£99,072.54)-which is $211,456 (£171,717.07) less than the player in the number the spot.
Interestingly, the figures for the top-earning female players are not even close to matching the figures for the top-earning male players, topping that list is the Dota 2 player Johan Sundsteinwho has earned an astounding $6,889,591.79 (£5,594,830.80). This represents over 20 times the amount of our top-earning female gamer. In fact, OnBuy.com added together with the tournament earnings from the top 400 female players and the sum was approximately $3,030,000 (2,460,572.10) – not even half the amount earned by the top male gamer.
In fact, women players do not feature in the top 300 highest earning gamers list. Top-earning female player, Scarlett, only features at number 329, and our second highest, Mystik, isn’t even in the top 500.
