Cambridge, UK – The Cambridge Film Festival (CFF) has revealed a first look at the programme for its 43rd edition, which will run from 24th to 31st October at the Cambridge Arts Picturehouse.
This year’s festival promises an extraordinary cinematic experience. Around 100 films are scheduled over eight days, including a rich blend of UK and European premieres, award-winning features, and diverse genres.
As the UK’s third longest-running film festival, CFF continues its tradition of showcasing a mix of international and UK cinema. The 2024 line-up highlights the festival’s commitment to presenting a wide array of stories, from groundbreaking debuts to the latest works by renowned filmmakers.
Featured Films and Strands
The 43rd edition of CFF introduces audiences to a compelling selection of films. Andrea Arnold’s much-anticipated coming-of-age story BIRD, starring Barry Keoghan and Franz Rogowski, is among the highlights already confirmed.
The festival will close eight days later with Jesse Eisenberg’s comedy-drama A REAL PAIN, which has been wowing audiences and critics at the Sundance Film Festival.
This year’s Gala Screenings will feature high-profile films like the Palme d’Or-winning ANORA, an intense drama that explores a doomed relationship between an exotic dancer and the son of a Russian Oligarch, and Marielle Heller’s Amy Adams-starring NIGHTBITCH, a bold and innovative film that blends dark humour with poignant social commentary.
The International Festival Highlights strand will bring a diverse range of award-winning films to Cambridge, including UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE, a documentary that explores the unifying power of communication across cultures, and the 2024 Golden Bear winner DAHOMEY from festival favourite Mati Diop, a historical epic that delves into the rich heritage of West Africa.
Returning to CFF is the famous Camera Catalonia strand, which this year showcases a powerful lineup of films from the Catalan region. Noteworthy titles include THE TEACHER WHO PROMISED THE SEA, a profoundly moving story of an idealistic teacher set against the backdrop of Spain’s political history, and WEREWOLF, a horror film that reimagines the werewolf myth with a contemporary twist.
New to this year’s festival is the Art of Action: Fierce Frames strand, which celebrates the powerful presence of women in action cinema. Films such as POINT BREAK and YES, MADAM! will feature in this exhilarating series, offering audiences a thrilling exploration of high-octane storytelling led by formidable female protagonists.
Special Events and Industry Engagement
Beyond the screenings, CFF43 will once again host the third edition of CFF Industry Day, providing an invaluable platform for filmmakers, producers, and industry professionals to engage, collaborate, and discuss the future of cinema. This event and a series of panel discussions and Q&A sessions underscore the festival’s commitment to fostering a vibrant film culture in Cambridge.
Owen Baker from the Festival Management Team expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming festival: “We are incredibly excited to present this year’s line-up, which reflects the diverse and dynamic nature of global cinema today. From groundbreaking debuts to critically acclaimed masterpieces, there is something for all ages and tastes at CFF43.
