Paris, France – In a remarkable celebration of cinema, the 78th Cannes film festival will bring its grand opening night to the big screen—not just at the Palais des Festivals, but in over 380 cinemas across France.

For the fourth year in a row, the Festival’s opening ceremony and film will be broadcast live to hundreds of movie theaters in 90 French departments. The initiative, driven by the Festival de Cannes in collaboration with France Télévision, the Fédération Nationale des Cinémas Français, and the CNC, is also supported by the AFCAE.
Presented by French actor Laurent Lafitte, this year’s opening ceremony will feature legendary American actor Robert De Niro as guest of honor. The event will be followed by the screening of Partir un jour (Leave One Day), the debut feature film by director Amélie Bonnin.
From multiplexes and independent theaters to local art houses, cinemas of all kinds are taking part in this nationwide celebration. A total of 382 cinemas will participate, offering thousands of film lovers the chance to experience the glamour and excitement of Cannes live.
The Festival aims to reaffirm the cultural importance of movie theaters and the power of the shared cinematic experience. Organizers expressed their gratitude to cinema owners across the country for making this collective event possible.
